Why FiltersFast.com Sells a $2,000 Filter

By July 23, 2018No Comments

Most people don’t understand the differences between the cheap air filters and the higher quality ones. The main purpose of a filter is to protect your HVAC equipment while improving the indoor air quality in your home. The type of air filter you are using makes a BIG difference in the air quality you and your family continually breathe in every day, as well as how efficient your unit is working.

So why does FiltersFast.com have a $2,000 filter on their website? Here’s why. In most cases something that is more expensive means that it’s high quality, right? WRONG! If you are using the blue fiberglass filters, chances are more dirt and dust are going into your system. Over time dust will either stay somewhere in your system or circulate right back into your home. Not only is this unhealthy, but can increase your maintenance bills and cause costly repair bills.

Here’s what a fiberglass filter might cost you:

Annual HVAC Service: $100-$200
Coil Cleaning: $300-$400
Ductwork Cleaning: $800-$1,500
Component Failure: $1000-$6,000

Around 90% of indoor air particulates are 5 microns or smaller. For perspective, a granule of sugar is about 10 microns — it’s enormous, compared to the harmful particulates that float unseen through your home’s air. If you dumped a jar of sugar over the fiberglass filter pictured above, how many granules do you think it would capture?

Look, we know it’s tempting to just grab these cheap fiberglass filters and throw one in every three months, but these filters can cost you more in the long run. Why not invest in a better filter that protects your HVAC system as well as your family’s health, and one that you don’t have to change as often as a fiberglass filter?

That’s why the $2,000 Fiberglass filter will remain sold out on our website because we would NEVER put your family or your HVAC system at risk.

So what air filter should you be using?

Now that we’ve established that you should no longer buy those cheap fiberglass filters, it’s time to figure out which filter you should be using. Typically, the best air filter for you is one that offers the highest level of efficiency without damaging your HVAC system.  Just because you are using the most efficient filter out there, does not necessarily mean it is the right one for your home. The age of your HVAC system also needs to be considered when purchasing a filter with a MERV rating.

MERV ratings explained

MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Rating Value. A MERV rating is a numerical value ranging from 1 (lowest efficiency) to 16 (highest efficiency). The number tells you how well the filter captures and holds dust and dirt of a specified size range. If you have an older HVAC system, you should probably not be using a filter higher than a MERV 11. Most of the older systems should use a filter with a MERV rating of only 8 or lower. Always make sure to choose a filter rating that corresponds to the requirement of your HVAC system.
